Areia Branca, praia e dinossauros
Areia Branca is known for its beach located in the municipality of Lourinhã, in the Western Region. The coastline is dotted with beautiful beaches, cliffs and bays. It has great conditions for Surfing, Bodyboarding and Sport Fishing.
The Hostel is located right on the Areia Branca Beach, which is why you should simply enjoy the sun, the sand and go in for a swim. But there’s much more to do here! Go north about 15 km and you’ll reach one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, Baleal.
Come down the coast to Carvoeiro Cape. Next to the lighthouse, you have a magnificent view of the cliffs and the Berlengas Islands. You can take one of the tourist boats leaving from the Peniche Port to visit this natural reserve, but that alone will take up half your day!
In Peniche, be sure to visit the Fortress, well known for having served as a prison for political prisoners during the Estado Novo political regime. Due to the sea and the port’s proximity, you’ll find good restaurants with various fish and seafood dishes.
Dedicate your afternoon to the theme of ‘Dinosaurs’. Continue to the Dino Parque, the largest open-air museum in Portugal where visitors can see more than 120 models of dinosaurs. If you like this theme, don't leave without visiting the Lourinhã Museum. Here, you have an important collection of traces from these animals that inhabited the area over 200 million years ago.
