Bragança, montanha e tradição

City nestling between mountains, 700 m high and only 22 km from the border with Spain. Bragança offers you an integrated experience of nature and tradition.

Bragança’s mornings are usually cold. Gear up with comfortable footwear and go to the village centre. Go up the Praça da Sé to the Castle. In the Citadel, you can visit the Keep, where the Military Museum and the Costume and Mask Museum are located. In this historic centre, you also have the Princesa Tower, the Sta. Maria Church and the Domus Municipalis, a unique medieval civil architecture building in the Iberian Peninsula.

Before finishing the morning, go for a ride on the cycle path on a Xispa, a shared electric bike. Choose between the Fervença and Mãe de Água cycle path. You also have a cultural alternative, which is to visit the Graça Morais Contemporary Art Centre.

After lunch, choose whether you're going to take a hiking trail or a ride in your car. Or both... Outside Bragança, you have the Montesinho Nature Park, one of the richest in the country in terms of biodiversity. If you choose the hiking trail, a quiet choice is Carrazedo. 25 km to the north, on the border with Spain, be sure to visit the Rio de Onor, a rustic village of community tradition.

Back in Bragança, you’ll have to recharge your batteries at a local restaurant. The area is known for its dishes of grilled veal cutlet, lamb chops, roast kid, alheira (pork sausage) and a side of chestnuts and mushrooms. Another traditional dessert and you can wave your diet goodbye!
