Ponte de Lima, jardins e desporto
This is the oldest village in Portugal. Surrounded by the landscape of the Lima Valley, here you’ll find a land full of identity with a centuries-old heritage. It’s also the perfect place for nature and radical sports lovers.
In the morning, head towards Av. dos Plátanos. When you arrive at Largo de Camões, you’ll come across the Nobre Fountain, surrounded by several shops and cafés. Exit towards the Mother Church and, right beside it, you’ll have the Misericórdia Church. Return through the Cadeia Velha and S. Paulo Towers and, once again, you’re in Largo de Camões.
Cross the River Lima over the Roman-Medieval Bridge. It's this village’s ex-libris and identity landmark. On the right river bank, visit the Arnado Park. If you like green spaces, then walk south to the International Gardens Festival Park. Now you understand why they call Ponte de Lima the ‘Garden Village’.
In the afternoon, go for a bike ride along the cycle path to the Bertiandos and S. Pedro d’Arcos Laggons. It’s a protected area where you have unique species and natural habitats. Later in the evening, recover from your work out with a good meal. Try the arroz de sarrabulho [pork blood-based stew], the lamprey rice, or the pork rojões [fried pork tenderloins]. End the meal with a crème brûlée, it’s divine!
The next day, you can try another sport. You have plenty of options to choose from... hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, tennis, horseback riding, fishing, among many others.
