Serra da Estrela, vales e águas puras

Estrela Mountain is the highest mountain in mainland Portugal. In addition to the snow, travellers are attracted to the area by the beauty of the valleys, flora and watercourses. Choose between practicing a mountain sport or simply resting in the silence of the mountain.

Choose how you want to enjoy the day... take a hiking trail of the mountain or a drive through the area. Next to the Hostel, in Penhas Douradas, you can start the Senda dos Pastores trail. By car, leave in the morning to the Tower and you’re at the highest point in mainland Portugal. If it's snowing, you can practice or take Ski and Snowboard lessons at the Ski Resort.

Travel towards Covão d' Ametade. Here is where the River Zêzere is born; the leisure park is very pleasant. You can also start another trail here, the Ex-Libris da Serra. Drive down the Zêzere Glacier Valley. Before Manteigas, you can go to Poço do Inferno, a small lake with a waterfall.

If the weather is hot, pass by Manteigas towards the Valhelhas River Beach. If you have time, you are close to Belmonte and this village is worth a good visit. Here, you have the Centum Cellas Tower, the Castle and the Jewish Museum.

We suggest going to Covilhã for dinner. Choose a good local restaurant and be sure to try the local cheese and prosciutto.
